An easy non-alcoholic fruit punch for the whole family. Made with fruit tea, juice, and warming mulled wine spices, this festive drink brings authentic Christmas market magic to your home.
Bring 4 cups (1 liter) of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add 3 tea bags. Let steep for 5-8 minutes, then remove tea bags.
1 liter hibiscus tea
Pour the brewed tea into a large saucepan. Add 1 cup of apple juice, 1 cup of orange juice, cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and vanilla extract.
250 ml apple juice, 250 ml orange juice, 5 cloves, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 star anise, 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
Slice the orange into rounds. Add most of the slices to the saucepan, reserving a few for garnish.
1 orange
Heat the mixture over medium-low heat for 15 minutes. Important: Do not let it boil! Keep it at a gentle simmer to preserve the delicate flavors.
After simmering, taste the Kinderpunsch and add sugar or honey if desired. Stir until dissolved.
50 g brown sugar
Using a fine mesh strainer, strain out the spices and orange slices. Pour into mugs and garnish with reserved orange slices. Safety tip: If serving to children, let it cool slightly to warm (not hot) to prevent burns.
Notes
Recipe Variation
Replace the tea with red fruit juice such as grape, cherry, cranberry, or pomegranate juice.
Vary the spices- the standard mulled wine spices are cinnamon, cloves, and star anise. You can add some cardamon, ginger, nutmeg, or lemon and orange peel.
Add fruit to your punch - why not slice some apples, oranges or add grapes into the punch for the little ones to snack on.
Storage
You can store the non-alcoholic mulled wine in airtight bottles in the fridge. This should last up to two to three days. The punch does not necessarily need to be warmed up, as you can also drink it cold. It is also nice for breakfast the next day for example.
